pom pom tutorial

I apologize in advance for the quality of these pictures. It's January in Minnesota so natural light is very hard to come by, especially if its dark when you leave for work in the morning and dark when you come home. It might as well be Alaska around here! (hi Aaron and Laura!)

on with the show.

here's what you will need:

tissue paper
scissors
floral wire
ribbon if you wish to hang it

Start with three sheets of your desired color of tissue paper.

Cut these in half and lay one half on the other like so

And I clearly should not have used yellow tissue paper on a light wood table. Oh well, you live you learn.

Take one end of your little tissue pile and fold it over about an inch

Then accordion fold it back and forth until you reach the end

Secure with a little floral wire (or anything else that you would like to use. string, pipe cleaner, the sky is the limit!)

At this point, round off the ends. this will make it look pretty and soft.

Slip a ribbon or string under the floral wire on the side, or not flat part of the tissue paper. Otherwise your pom will hang funny, and nobody wants a funny hanging pom.

After your ribbon is in place, carefully start pulling apart the individual layers of tissue paper.

Keep pulling and fluffing until you have this

Voila!

You can use them for simple decorations like I did here:

Give it a shot! And if you do, you should send a picture of your pom to
thehildens(at)gmail(dot)com

Happy Pom Pom making.

Now that I see this, I think I have made them before.. regardless, they look so simple and pretty! Thanks for sharing Jess! I might have to throw a party just so I can make these!

Great job, Jess, on showing us how to make these wonderful little doo- dads. We used to make those in 1969 when I was a campfire girl.
