Roast it!

Hey All!

Dave here. It's been a long time since I have posted on the blog. Jess does a pretty good job of keeping everyone updated......doesn't she? Well, I thought I would share a little about my newest hobby....coffee roasting! Thanks to Tom at The People's Roast.

I started with buying an old school popcorn popper, The Poppery II

old poppers like this work because they swirl the beans around. I'm not going to get into the technicalities of it all, but if you want to learn more check out Tom's website listed above. That's where I bought all my beans and equipment. I'm hooked! He has some "how to" videos on his site too.

After I had the popper I needed some green beans! Tom had beans from Burundi in stock, so I started with those.

You can really only roast about 1/2 cup at a time, and it takes about 6-8 minutes for a batch depending on how dark you roast them.  I couldn't believe the difference in taste between freshly roasted and store bought beans. Here's the rest of my pics. It's been extremely fun roasting for friends, family, and myself!

Tom is my brother, and he got me hooked on these home roasted coffees as well. I really do like the coffee that results from roasting your own so much better than the big box Starbucks or other mega roasts. Of course Tom got me hooked, now I have to go to him regularly as my coffee hookup.
