pom pom tutorial
I apologize in advance for the quality of these pictures. It's January in Minnesota so natural light is very hard to come by, especially if its dark when you leave for work in the morning and dark when you come home. It might as well be Alaska around here! (hi Aaron and Laura!)
on with the show.
here's what you will need:
tissue paper
scissors
floral wire
ribbon if you wish to hang it
Start with three sheets of your desired color of tissue paper.
Cut these in half and lay one half on the other like so
And I clearly should not have used yellow tissue paper on a light wood table. Oh well, you live you learn.
Take one end of your little tissue pile and fold it over about an inch
Then accordion fold it back and forth until you reach the end
Secure with a little floral wire (or anything else that you would like to use. string, pipe cleaner, the sky is the limit!)
At this point, round off the ends. this will make it look pretty and soft.
Slip a ribbon or string under the floral wire on the side, or not flat part of the tissue paper. Otherwise your pom will hang funny, and nobody wants a funny hanging pom.
After your ribbon is in place, carefully start pulling apart the individual layers of tissue paper.
Keep pulling and fluffing until you have this
Voila!
You can use them for simple decorations like I did here:
Give it a shot! And if you do, you should send a picture of your pom to

a discovery and a shower
I recently discovered something about myself.
I love throwing parties. Actually, I love decorating for parties and pulling all the details together. I love it.
My friend Lauren is having a baby soon, so naturally I wanted to help throw her a shower, along with my friends Becky and Chanelle.
The colors we chose were hot pink and lime green. Lauren loves pink and since they don't know the gender of Baby, we chose green to make it less "girly"
Here are some of the fun details.
These cupcakes were a-maze-ing! My friend Becky made them and they were filled with raspberry mousse. What?!
Oh yeah, and there were people at the shower too of course!
And we played games.
And there were gifts.
And a grand time was had by all.
If you or anyone you know needs help designing a party, let me know. Kind of thinking about starting a little business. You can see another party I helped design here.

A little restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis was featured on an old episode of Man v. Food that we happened to watch the other day so naturally I wanted to go check it out.
Brasa might as well mean fresh and delicious. Yum.
They serve locally raised meat and locally grown produce.
And the only soda they serve is coke from Mexico and Dr. Pepper from Ireland, so nothing with corn syrup.
Brasa gets the very prestigious Two Thumbs Up award!
They also have a location in St. Paul so make sure to check it out!

a very special birthday
Last year, when my dad turned 50, we threw a big party.
This year, when my mom turned 50, we did not throw a party. Because my mom didn't want a party. And she was the birthday girl after all.
So we had to come up with something else that would make her feel special and loved.
We planned a birthday "day-o-fun"
Here's the rundown:
The ladies of the family hit up a tea house in white bear lake called the Avalon Tea Room. It was amazing. If you are female or you know a female *(that should be all of you...) please make reservations for a formal tea. it's so fun! I was having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures while there. Rats!
*Please excuse my sexist comment. Men are of course welcome at the tea house.
After enjoying tea, scones and quiche, we grabbed the boys and headed to the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
I heart art museums.
At this point we were all hungry and a little peopled out since the museum was packed.
So we hit the road and ended up at the Global Market! If you haven't been there yet, please go. You wont regret it.
we ate here:
Aren't my parents just the cutest??
Aren't these two random girls I found just the cutest??
Happy Birthday Mom!! We love you to the moon and back!
