back to life. back to reality

We have been living outside the realm of reality for a week where everything was sunshine, fancy food and trivia.

But now it's back to life, back to reality.

We will give the full trip update soon. Right now we are too busy wondering why no one is coming in to make our bed or bring us food. weird.

Reading list for vacation.....

list update # 2

I'm slowly getting a few things done on my list for this year. Thankfully I have 7 more months to get the rest done!

Here's an update:

9) purchase a sewing machine We "bought" (in quotes since we haven't paid for it yet - we totally will Kellie!!) an old one from my sister. now I have to learn how to use it!

13) paint out bedroom the color is "natural linen" and no, it's not white. there will be some before and after photos but not until the room transformation is complete.

27) Save up for and purchase a DSLR camera and lenses YAHOO!! We got a Canon xsi and I couldn't be happier. Add this to my list of "things I have to learn how to use"

That's all for now peeps.

Manvasion 1: Cake in a cup.

MANVASION!!!!!

Okay, I decided that we need to man up the blog a little bit. Don't get me wrong, I love Jess' artsy things that she puts on here. She does a fantastic job with all of her crafts, but making poms isn't exactly what I do in my free time. (so sorry babe). So, in my first of many many manvasion posts (okay, so this might be the only one but we'll see) I give you CAKE IN A COFFEE MUG. I actually stole this idea from a website that my bromigo, Jeff Printy, told me about....www.instructables.com.

Start with a few differenet ingredients, flour, sugar, oil, milk, coffee mug, fork....

what's that sweet tea doing in the picture you ask? That's my "tall boy". A man needs his tall boy.

don't forget an egg too.

mix everything in the coffee mug, throw it into the microwave for a while, take a swig from your tall boy, and change into your sweats.

Now, I didn't follow the directions completely because it called for chocolate and chocolate chips, but I wanted a vanilla cake. Not sure if it changed the consistancy of the cake or not, but it kind of came out looking and feeling like a wet sponge. It also smelled like microwaved egg..... it didn't taste that awesome either. Jess wasn't really down with tasting it.

In the end, we decided to doctor it up a bit with a few of my favorite things. Batter Blaster, chocolate sauce, cookie dough, and a cherry. All in all, it tasted delicious. Next time I might try the chocolate...

the year of the dog

Dave and I listen to a lot of music. In the car, on the computer, on the ipod, there's always some kind of music going. So I thought, why not chronicle our years together by compiling all the music we are listening to on a yearly basis. This started last year with a CD called "the year of the apartment" and this year's mix is called "the year of the dog."

Behold:

Sigh No More - Mumford and Sons
Waking up in Vegas - Katy Perry
Heartless - Kris Allen
I Gotta Feeling - The Black Eyed Peas
Tears Wont Fall - Farewell Milwaukee
The Cave - Mumford and Sons
The Fox, the Crow, and the Cookie - Me Without You
The Rat Within the Grain - Damien Rice
Fever - Peggy Lee
Transatlanticism - Death Cab for Cutie
All is Love - Karen O & The Kids
Reaction - Ace Enders
All I Have - Mat Kearney
Get Me Right - Dashboard Confessional
At the Bottom - Brand New
Comin' Round to Get You - Farewell Milwaukee
Party in the USA - Miley Cyrus

Now, obviously we listened to more music than what this list represents, but these are the songs or the artists that we kept going back to over the last year. We recommend that you check out Mumford and Sons and Farewell Milwaukee if you've never heard them. They are two of our favorites.

And I'm not sure if we ever shared last year's mix with y'all, so here is the Year of the Apartment:

You Are the Best Thing - Ray Lamontagne
Holiday From Real - Jack's Mannequin
Boy With a Coin - Iron & Wine
